Requirements for a Major in Statistics
(Actuarial Science Concentration)
Current students wishing to declare the statistics major with an Actuarial Science concentration must meet both of the following requirements: (1) have completed MTH 1322 with a minimum grade of C and (2) must have an overall GPA of 3.0 or higher. Transfer students must wait to earn a Baylor GPA of 3.0 or higher before declaring the Actuarial Science concentration.
27 semester hours including the following:
- STA 3381, 3386, 4382, 4385, 4386
- 12 semester hours of additional STA courses of which 9 hours must be at the ‘4000’ level. (STA 4V90 may be taken for a maximum of 6 hours.)
- A grade of “C” or better in courses used for the major.
Required courses in other fields:
- MTH 1321, 1322, 2311, 2321
- 1 course to be selected from CSI 1401, CSI 1430, or STA 2450
- 8 semester hours of science courses with associated labs chosen from BIO, CHE, ENV, GEO, NSC, or PHY. Each course must apply to a major in its department. Select from: BIO 1305-1105, 1306-1106; CHE 1301-1101, CHE 1302-1102; ENV 1301-1101, 1303-1103; GEO 1106, (1306 and 1307), One GEO from 1401, 1402, 1403, 1405, 1408; NSC 1306-1106; PHY 1420 or PHY 1430.
- At least 18 hours selected from the following courses: ACC 2303, ECO 2306, ECO 2307, ECO 3306, ECO 3307, FIN 3305, FIN 3310, FIN 3311, FIN 4320, FIN 4366
Requirements for a Secondary Major in Statistics
33 semester hours including the following:
- MTH 1321, MTH 1322, MTH 2311 and MTH 2321.
- STA 3381, STA 3386, and STA 4382.
- 12 semester hours of additional “2000-4000” level STA electives.
- A grade of “C” or better in courses used for the Secondary Major.
Requirements for a Minor in Statistics
18 semester hours including the following:
- STA 2381 and STA 3381.
- Additional Statistics (12 semester hours) from any STA course that counts toward the major in statistics.
- A grade of “C” or better in STA courses used for the minor.
