About
The Department of Statistical Science was created in June 2004 when it replaced the Institute of Statistics as the home for graduate statistics programs at Baylor University. The Ph.D. and M.A. (now M.S.) degrees in Statistics were first administered in 1991. Since that time the program has produced approximately 107 doctoral and 112 master level students. The degree programs are designed to provide a balance between statistical theory and applications of statistical methods with an emphasis being placed on acquiring research, consulting, and teaching skills that were applicable to the biomedical, industrial, and academic careers.
The Department initiated the undergraduate B.S. in Statistics in June 2005 and graduated its first major in Fall 2008. The program has had an increasing number of students express interest in the major. The minor in Statistics has also been added and provides an attractive option for students entering into graduate school or professional career opportunities.
The mission of the Department of Statistical Science is to provide quality statistics instruction at all levels, to make significant contributions to the discovery and dissemination of statistical knowledge, and to develop, within a Christian environment, ethical scholars, skilled professionals, and educated leaders who are sensitive to the needs of society.
