Faculty and Graduate Student Research Team Receives Prestigious 2025 Editor’s Award

The Department of Statistical Science is pleased to announce that a research team comprised of faculty and graduate student scholars has received the 2025 Editor’s Award from the American Journal of Speech-Language Pathology for their article, “Functional Reading Activities to Motivate and Empower for Young Adults With Intellectual or Developmental Disabilities: A Randomized Pilot Trial.”

Authored by A. Prahl, K. Fraze, A. Kannan, J. Grauzer, and R.X. Sturdivant, the study explores the effectiveness of functional reading activities in promoting motivation, engagement, and independence among young adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

The Editor’s Award is one of the journal’s highest honors, recognizing only the most impactful articles published during the year. Recipients are selected based on the significance of their contributions to the field, the quality of their research design, and excellence in scholarly presentation.

This recognition highlights the important contributions that faculty and graduate student researchers are making to evidence-based practices that support literacy development and improved outcomes for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
